1. Scope
This Cookie Policy explains how bettermac.net and its official language versions use cookies and similar technologies. It forms part of the notice given together with the BetterMac Privacy Policy and Personal Information Notice. Where this Policy and the Privacy Policy differ on a technical detail, this Policy controls for cookies; the Privacy Policy controls for everything else.
The BetterMac macOS applications listed in Appendix E of the Privacy Policy are native applications. They do not use cookies for their core local operations. A cookie described below applies only when you use the corresponding web function in a browser.
2. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store and return on later requests. Similar technologies include localStorage, sessionStorage, and comparable client-side storage. We refer to all of them as “cookies” in this Policy.
We classify cookies as strictly necessary (required to deliver a function you requested, such as keeping you signed in or preventing request forgery) or non-essential (analytics, advertising, personalization, or measurement). Under applicable law, strictly necessary cookies may be set without consent; non-essential cookies require valid consent before they are set.
3. Cookies we currently use
3.1 Consent preference (public pages)
On public marketing pages we show an analytics consent banner. Your Accept or Reject choice is stored in a first-party preference cookie so we can honour it on later visits. Storing that choice is required for the consent control itself. The administration console, license recovery, and checkout surfaces do not load analytics and do not show this banner.

3.2 Analytics (only after you accept)
If you accept analytics, we load Google Analytics 4 (Measurement ID G-3KX1DDYFRD) to measure public-page visits and a small set of product interactions (page views, product CTA clicks, Mac App Store outbound clicks, and use-case list/detail views). Advertising features, remarketing, User-ID, and intentional collection of personal identifiers in events are disabled. Google may then set first-party measurement cookies on bettermac.net, including:

If you reject analytics, or have not chosen yet, we do not load the Google tag and do not send measurement requests. You can change your choice later with the “Manage analytics cookies” control on this page or in the site footer.
3.3 Strictly necessary cookies for authenticated functions
The following strictly necessary cookies are set only when the corresponding function is enabled and you actually use it. Simply reading a public page never sets any of them. License recovery and the administration console are not open to the public as of the date of this Policy.

All production session cookies are transmitted only over HTTPS. Preference and session cookies above that we set are first-party cookies on bettermac.net. Google Analytics cookies in section 3.2 are also set on our domain after consent, under Google’s processing as described in the Privacy Policy.
4. What we do not do
- We do not set advertising, retargeting, or cross-site advertising cookies.
- We do not enable Google ads, remarketing, or advertising personalization signals on this site.
- We do not use cookies to build an advertising profile or to track you across other websites for advertising.
- We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so a Global Privacy Control signal does not trigger any additional data sale. We still recognize and honor such a signal where applicable law requires it.
- We do not treat “Accept analytics” as an “Accept all” for advertising or other undeclared purposes.
5. Third-party checkout pages
Direct website checkout is not enabled. If it is enabled in the future, selecting checkout will redirect you only to a whitelisted, independent payment provider’s own domain. That provider may set its own cookies for payment completion, fraud prevention, and security under its own policy, and those cookies are outside our control. Before that happens we will update this Policy to identify the payment provider, the destination link, the categories of information involved, and any cross-border transfer, and we will show a clear notice before the redirect.
6. Your controls
Manage analytics cookies — reopen the Accept / Reject banner. Rejecting stops further Google Analytics loading; you may also delete `_ga` cookies in your browser.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and most browsers let you block cookies for a specific site. Blocking strictly necessary cookies does not prevent you from reading any public page, including product, support, and legal pages. It will, however, prevent licence recovery and administrator sign-in from working, because those functions depend on the cookie to verify the request. Blocking or clearing better_mac_analytics_consent will cause the consent banner to appear again.
Deleting a cookie ends the corresponding session or preference immediately. Each cookie above also expires on its own within the lifetime shown.
7. Changes
If we introduce additional non-essential cookies, we will update this Policy first, obtain valid consent before they are set where applicable law requires it, and keep refusal and withdrawal as easy as acceptance. Adding a cookie to production without updating this table is treated as a release-blocking defect.
