BetterMac Refund Policy
Version: 2026-09-20
Effective date: 24 August 2026
Last updated: September 20, 2026
Important: Our paid App purchases are offered only through the Mac App Store. For an App that offers a Pro in-app purchase, Apple is the seller in that channel and handles payment, tax, receipts, purchase restoration, and refunds. We cannot issue an Apple refund and cannot overturn Apple’s refund decision. Submit refund requests at https://reportaproblem.apple.com or through Apple Support. This policy explains when a refund is available, when it usually is not, what help we can give, and what happens to your entitlement after a refund. Nothing here excludes, limits, or replaces consumer rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
1. Scope and Relationship to Other Documents
1.1 What this covers. This policy applies to paid purchases made through the Mac App Store for the BetterMac-branded macOS applications covered by the BetterMac Terms of Use and End User License Agreement (the “Terms”) or the per-application Privacy Policy supplements, including Better UnArchiver, Better Cleaner, and Better Recorder Pro. Better Share and Better Calc Pro are free and have no paid products, so this policy does not apply to them.
1.2 A single sales channel. We do not operate direct website sales, we do not sell through third-party retailers, resellers, bundles, or marketplaces, and we do not sell standalone license keys. There is no purchase flow you can complete on the website, so there is no transaction for which we collect payment or issue a refund directly.
1.3 Relationship to the Terms. This policy expands on Section 7.3 of the Terms (App Store transactions) and applies together with it. Where the two differ, this policy controls refund matters and the Terms control license scope, limitation of liability, and dispute resolution.
1.4 Apple’s terms prevail. For App Store payment, refunds, purchase restoration, Family Sharing, and license scope, the applicable Apple Media Services Terms and the Apple standard EULA prevail. Consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded always prevail.
1.5 Statutory rights are unaffected. This policy does not affect your rights to repair, re-performance, replacement, price reduction, refund, cancellation, or compensation under the laws of the People’s Republic of China or the mandatory consumer laws of your country of habitual residence. See Section 9.
1.6 Free products and free allowances. Use of a free product or within an App’s free allowance involves no payment and creates no refundable transaction for that use. Better Cleaner offers a free allowance and a paid Pro subscription; its allowance and limits are described in Section 5 and Annex 2 of the Terms.
2. Try Before You Buy
This section applies only to an App that offers a Pro purchase: use that App’s available free features or allowance to verify its capabilities, performance, and your actual workflow before purchasing Pro. Before you buy, please confirm:
- Capability boundaries. For example, Better UnArchiver creates ZIP, 7z, TAR, TAR.GZ, TAR.BZ2, and TAR.XZ archives, with archive encryption only for ZIP and 7z; RAR, RAR5, and ARJ are read-only and DMG support is limited and read-only; it does not create RAR archives and does not repair a RAR recovery record. The full boundaries are in Annex 2 of the Terms and in the format notes on the product page.
- System requirements. macOS version, Mac architecture, available disk space, and permissions.
- What you are buying. Better UnArchiver and Better Recorder Pro offer a one-time non-consumable Pro purchase; Better Cleaner offers an auto-renewable monthly subscription tier and an auto-renewable yearly subscription tier in one group, each with a one-week free trial for eligible accounts, whose only entitlement is removal of the monthly clean-up byte cap. Check the relevant App’s purchase screen and product-specific terms for the price, period, trial, renewal, cancellation, and Family Sharing rules.
- What archive rescue does, where offered. Archive rescue only attempts to rebuild readable content into a new ZIP or 7z archive. It does not guarantee full recovery of lost or damaged data.
“It did not do what I expected” is normally not a ground for a refund when the answer was available before purchase (see Section 5). This does not affect the grounds in Section 4.
3. Refunds Are Handled by Apple
3.1 How to request. Submit your refund request at https://reportaproblem.apple.com or through Apple Support, signed in with the Apple Account that made the purchase.
3.2 Apple decides. The request deadline, review criteria, outcome, and settlement timing are determined by Apple under its terms and your local law (in most regions a request must be made within a limited period after purchase; Apple’s rules control). Refunds are returned to the original payment method under Apple’s and your card issuer’s rules.
3.3 The limits of what we can do. We cannot refund on Apple’s behalf, expedite Apple’s review, or overturn an Apple denial, and we cannot see your Apple Account, payment method, or billing information.
3.4 The help we can give. On request we can confirm the feature scope and known limitations, verify and describe a product defect and provide a reproduction record or fix status, explain version and macOS compatibility, and give a technical explanation of free-allowance metering or entitlement state. You can use that material to support your request to Apple.
3.5 What remains our responsibility. Apple handling the payment does not relieve us of responsibility for product defects, false or incorrect descriptions, or other matters that are BetterMac’s responsibility under the law (see Section 4).
3.6 Unofficial sources. Products obtained through cracked builds, purchasing agents, shared accounts, second-hand Apple Accounts, or other unofficial sources are not covered by this policy, and we provide no refund assistance, license support, or entitlement restoration for them.
4. What We Handle Directly
Contact us in the following cases. We will act first on what does not depend on Apple’s review, and where a refund is genuinely required we will provide a written explanation to support your request to Apple:
4.1 Purchase completed but Pro not unlocked. First use “Restore Purchases” in the app, and confirm that you are signed in with the Apple Account and store region used for the purchase, that the device is online, and that the app is up to date. If it still does not unlock, contact us with the purchase time and any error shown. This is usually a fixable technical issue rather than a transaction that needs a refund.
4.2 Entitlement lost unexpectedly. If Pro stops working although you did not request a refund, contact us and we will investigate. For an App where the server intake is enabled (Appendix E of the Privacy Policy states which), we can use the purchase, refund, and revocation records received through Apple App Store Server Notifications to help identify the cause; for an App without that intake, including Better Cleaner, we work from the Apple order details you provide and your App Store subscription status.
4.3 Free-allowance metering errors. If the task count, monthly reset, or size estimate is clearly wrong, we will fix it. Where such an error caused a purchase you did not need, we will provide a statement supporting your refund request to Apple.
4.4 Not as described, or not of the agreed quality. Where the product cannot deliver a core function expressly promised on the App Store listing or the in-app purchase screen and cannot be fixed within a reasonable time by an update, a workaround, or support, you may claim repair, re-performance, price reduction, refund, or cancellation as the law provides. We bear the part that is our responsibility under the law.
4.5 Statutory withdrawal or cancellation rights. Rights under the mandatory law of your location that have not been validly waived (see Section 9). Such rights are not extinguished merely because Apple processes the payment.
5. When a Refund Is Normally Declined
Subject to mandatory law, the following are normally not grounds for a refund (Apple still decides under its own rules):
- Documented capability boundaries. For example, no RAR archive creation, no RAR recovery-record repair, ARJ and DMG being read-only, no Family Sharing, and rescue not guaranteeing full data recovery.
- Environment issues you could check before buying. Unsupported macOS version or hardware, insufficient disk space, permission or path restrictions, or managed-device policy restrictions.
- Outcomes caused by operation. Selecting the wrong source files or destination, misusing overwrite options, keeping no independent backup, or ignoring explicit security or integrity warnings.
- Lost passwords. A lost archive or content password generally cannot be recovered by us or by the app.
- Buying the wrong thing. The wrong app, the wrong Apple Account, or the wrong store region; those cases should be taken to Apple.
- Family members or other devices cannot use it. Family Sharing is not offered for the current apps, and purchase restoration within one Apple Account is governed by Apple.
- A change of mind after Apple’s request deadline has passed.
- Price changes. We do not refund or credit the gap when a price drop, limited-time campaign, or regional price difference appears after your purchase.
- Misunderstanding the free allowance. A misunderstanding of the allowance, its metering, or its monthly reset is not itself a defect. Genuine metering errors are handled under Section 4.3.
- No longer needed, or used only occasionally. One-time purchases are not refunded pro rata by usage.
6. Data, Files, and Rescue Results
Core processing runs locally on your Mac. Corrupted files, missing volumes, system failures, power loss, third-party format differences, or data that could not be recovered are technical limits and risks described in Sections 9 and 15 of the Terms, and do not automatically create a refund right. Keep a verified independent backup before processing important files or a sole copy. Claims for loss or damage are handled under Section 16 of the Terms and applicable law, not decided through the refund process.
7. Obligations and Entitlement Changes After a Refund
7.1 Entitlement revocation. Once a refund completes, the Pro entitlement on your devices is revoked by StoreKit under Apple’s rules and the app returns to the free allowance. For an App where the server intake is enabled, we receive refund, revocation, and refund-reversal records through Apple App Store Server Notifications and update our records accordingly; for an App without that intake, including Better Cleaner, no such record exists. Either way, the on-device entitlement state is controlled by StoreKit.
7.2 Stop using it. After a refund, stop using the refunded paid features, and do not continue using them by altering receipts, system time, app data, or device identifiers. You may continue to use the free allowance.
7.3 Buying again. If you want the paid features again after a refund, purchase again at the price then in effect. The original purchase price or promotion is not preserved.
7.4 Refund reversal. If Apple reverses a refund, the entitlement may be restored under Apple’s rules.
7.5 Subscription cancellation and free trials. For Better Cleaner, manage or cancel the subscription in your App Store subscription settings. Cancellation stops future renewal under Apple’s rules and is not itself a refund request; Pro remains available until the end of the paid period unless Apple refunds or revokes it. Refund requests for a paid period still go to Apple. A free trial cancelled at least 24 hours before it ends is not charged; a trial that is not cancelled converts automatically into a paid subscription at the tier you selected.
8. Abuse and Account Security
8.1 Refund abuse. The following may lead us to decline refund assistance, limit the scope of support, or act on the related entitlement under Section 14 of the Terms: repeatedly requesting refunds and continuing to use the refunded features; circumventing the free allowance, purchase validation, or refund revocation by altering system time, app data, receipts, or device identifiers; submitting false order, identity, or defect evidence; and sharing or selling Apple Accounts to bypass purchase.
8.2 Good-faith disputes. We will not treat a good-faith payment dispute that is still under reasonable review as fraud on the basis of the dispute alone.
8.3 Payment and account security. Do not send full card numbers, security codes, online-banking credentials, or Apple Account passwords to our support address. We do not ask for them in ordinary support email, and a refund request does not require you to send us original payment records.
9. Regional Consumer Rights
9.1 Mainland China. In Mainland China, digital goods delivered by online download or immediate delivery may fall outside the seven-day no-reason return right, where this is permitted by law and was prominently disclosed before purchase. That does not affect rights to repair, re-performance, refund, cancellation, or compensation arising from non-conformity with the agreed quality, false or incorrect description, duplicate charges, non-delivery, or other statutory grounds. You may complain to a consumer organization, the market regulation authority, or a court with jurisdiction.
9.2 European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. For digital content bought at a distance you normally have a 14-day statutory withdrawal period. How it is exercised in the App Store channel, and whether it has been validly waived, is determined by Apple’s terms and local law. Digital content must still match its description, be of the quality the law requires, and receive necessary updates for the period the law requires; where it is not conforming, you may seek bringing it into conformity, a price reduction, cancellation, and a refund, and we bear the part that is BetterMac’s responsibility.
9.3 Other regions. Where your local law gives refund, cancellation, guarantee, or quality rights that cannot be waived by contract, those rights continue to apply and prevail over any conflicting provision of this policy.
10. How to Contact Us
For the assistance described in Section 3.4, or to raise a case under Section 4, email support@bettermac.net and include:
- the product name and version, your macOS version, and your Mac model;
- the purchase date, and, if available, the transaction identifier from your App Store receipt (never your Apple Account password or full payment details);
- a description of the problem; for a defect, the steps taken, the error shown, and any necessary screenshots.
Before sending screenshots or logs, remove or mask unrelated personal information, file names, paths, passwords, and trade secrets. We normally send a first reply within 5 business days. Cases needing further verification or depending on Apple may take longer, and we will keep you reasonably informed. If we decline your request, we will explain why unless security or legal restrictions prevent it; you may submit further material and ask us to review again, or complain to a competent authority or consumer body under Section 9.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy and will publish the version number, effective date, and last-updated date. Changes apply prospectively: a completed purchase keeps the conditions that were in effect when it was made, and we will not retroactively reduce a commitment already given. For changes that materially and adversely affect your rights, we will give prominent advance notice through the website, the app, email, or another appropriate channel. If direct website sales or another channel is opened in future, we will publish the refund conditions for that channel before checkout is enabled.
12. Language
The Chinese and English versions of this policy are intended to have the same meaning. If a conflict cannot be resolved by consistent interpretation, the Chinese version prevails, except where that would reduce mandatory consumer rights or where local law requires the local-language version to prevail.
