Better Moment Privacy Policy
Version and effective date: 2026-09-20. This notice covers Better Moment for iOS (net.better.mac.moment). The operator and privacy contact are identified in the general BetterMac Privacy Policy; this page specifies the processing applicable to this App.
1. Photos and analysis on your device
With your Photos permission, the App reads permitted photos and videos, local identifiers, dates, dimensions, duration, size information, favorites, media types, and location metadata already present in your library. Location metadata helps suggest albums; the App does not request live device location.
Apple Vision performs local similarity, quality, face-landmark and face-quality analysis, document classification, OCR, and barcode/QR detection. Face analysis evaluates pictures, not your identity. OCR text is used for classification; barcode content is kept locally for review and copied to the system clipboard only when you choose Copy. Codes are not automatically opened or sent to BetterMac.
Local indexes may retain derived features, hashes, category results and barcode content so later scans can reuse results. Review drafts, keep/remove choices, operation records, album drafts and preferences also stay in the App container. Previews use bounded memory caches. The App does not upload photos, OCR text or codes for cloud analysis.
2. Imports and local reminders
When you use the Share Extension, selected media are copied into the shared App Group container. Copies include their filename, media type, size, dimensions, duration where applicable, import time and content hash. Moving a copy to Removed Imports retains that copy for restoration inside the App; it does not delete the original.
Optional review reminders use Apple's local notification permission and scheduling. Preferences remain on device. The App does not register a remote push token. System diagnostic logs may contain operational error codes; the App has no automatic diagnostic-upload service.
3. Your controls and retention
You can limit or revoke Photos access in iOS Settings and disable reminders. Local analysis and review data remain until cleared or removed with the App, subject to system container and backup behavior. Revoking Photos access alone does not erase saved local records.
In Settings → Local Data & Maintenance → Advanced Maintenance, “Clear All Better Moment Data” clears local analysis, review records, album drafts, preferences, preview caches, and active, removed and temporary imported copies. Imported-copy removal is permanent within the App. Original Photos items, Recently Deleted, iCloud Photos and system permission settings are not changed. System-managed backups and logs are not erased by this action.
Pending or unverifiable photo/album operations must be resolved before clearing. If a step fails, some earlier steps may already be complete; the App reports the failure and you can retry. Empty database files or system storage overhead may remain after record removal; this action is not a secure overwrite of storage. New use or a new import can create new records.
4. Apple Photos and iCloud
The App requests cloud-only originals for analysis after you explicitly select downloading; current download controls require a suitable non-cellular connection. Apple manages iCloud delivery, synchronization, backups and Recently Deleted. A deletion you confirm may synchronize to your other devices. Better Moment cannot restore originals independently or guarantee recovery.
5. Website, email and information requests
The App needs no account and includes no advertising, tracking, analytics or automatic crash-upload SDK. It has no in-app support-ticket or attachment-upload form and no in-app purchases in this release.
Opening our legal/support pages sends an ordinary browser request to the website. Website request processing and optional analytics-cookie choices follow the general privacy policy and Cookie Policy; website processing is separate from local photo analysis.
If you email support@bettermac.net, we receive the address, message and any material you choose to send to handle your request. Do not send private photos, identity documents, codes, passwords or unredacted diagnostics. General-policy provisions explain applicable service providers, regions, retention and rights for website/support information. Clearing App data does not erase email already sent; contact that address for access, correction or deletion requests concerning information held by us. We cannot remotely retrieve or erase your local photo index.
6. Changes
This revision adds details about metadata, OCR/codes, reminders and local-data clearing to the 2026-09-13 notice. Material changes in processing will be reflected here and, where required, accompanied by notice or a separate choice. A link to this policy is not consent to future optional uploads.
